The purpose of this section is to provide answers to questions you may have about our goals, direction, purpose and more.
Why was Ovation! formed?
Ovation! Musical Theatre Bainbridge is a proud member of the performing arts community on Bainbridge Island. Ovation! was formed to provide more quality live musical theatre experiences and outlets for area residents as both audience members and as performers. There is a vast amount of musical talent in our community and in neighboring communities. Ovation! was created in 2003 to help showcase that talent. Ovation! strives to provide a positive, creative, ensemble-oriented environment for all participants.
What is Ovation!'s mission?
Ovation!’s mission is to create and present quality theatrical experiences by and for our community, which reinforce our shared commitment to artistic excellence. This is achieved by engaging talented members of our community as a united force, working together to reach our goals. What type of shows does Ovation! produce? Where do you perform?
Ovation! has most frequently leased the stage at our local high school, and has performed in other area venues. Ovation! produces two-three shows a year. Past productions have included Into The Woods, Oliver!, Hansel and Gretel, The Pirates of Penzance, The Music Man, A Christmas Carol, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Amahl and the Night Visitors and Oklahoma!
Who guides Ovation!?
Ovation! is guided by a board of directors headed up by our president Tom Burt. Creatively, we are guided by Ron Milton, Artistic Director. Are all of the people who are part of Ovation! from Bainbridge Island?
A lot of them are, but not all. It's important to involve as many musicians and performers as possible. Because we are located on Bainbridge Island we tend to draw the most talent from that community. Ovation! welcomes performers from any community to audition for its productions. Past productions have included performers from Kingston, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton, Edmonds, Seattle and other areas. Ovation! does not precast any parts in any production. Open auditions are held for all productions.
What makes Ovation! special?
Ovation! is committed to the concept of ensemble. All performers are part of a group that works together to create an artistic experience: both for the audience and for themselves. This is not an easy process. It requires discipline, passion, commitment and focus. Musicianship is also a hallmark of an Ovation! production. We devote a lot of time and energy to mastering the score and all cast members, regardless of age or experience level, are expected to rise to the occasion. We are also committed to using live orchestras in performance. Ovation! is also committed to providing as many talented people with the opportunity to participate as possible - consequently, we never pre-cast a show and always hold public, open auditions.
How does Ovation! raise money?
Ovation! is a 501(c)/3 non-profit corporation. It is led by a Board of Directors and a team of committed volunteers. Ovation! raises money primarily by applying for grants, conducting fundraisers and by charging admission to its productions. Ovation! also seeks contributions from individuals and from organizations.
